An earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale jolted East Nusa Tenggara in central Indonesia Friday evening, the country's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake struck at 20:40 p.m. Jakarta time (1340 GMT) with the epicenter initially determined to be 104 km northwest Flores Timur of East Nusa Tenggara, at depth of 572 km, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Indonesia is prone to quakes as it lies on a vulnerable quake- nit zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire." Endi
