Thousands protest against "worsening economic condition" in Ghana

Xinhua, February 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thousands of Ghanaians on Wednesday took to the streets of Kumasi, Ghana's second most populous city, to protest against the worsening power situation and economic condition in the country.

The demonstration organized by the Movement for Change, a pro- opposition pressure group, was also to protest against the refusal of the government to reduce fuel prices in spite of continuous reduction in the oil prices on the international market.

The protestors in traditional red and black attire held placards reading, "We need power now", "Where is our money".

The leaders of the protestors presented a petition to the King of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tuttu II, at the Manhyia Palace.

The vice-presidential aspirant of the main New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, was among a host of leading members of the party who took part in the demonstration.

The NPP earlier organized a protest named "We are dying" in Accra. Endi
