1 killed, 8 injured in SW Pakistan's blast

Xinhua, February 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least one man was killed and eight others injured when a bomb went off in a market area in Pakistan's southwest Chaman district on Tuesday afternoon, local media reported.

Samaa TV said some unknown militants blew up explosive materials with a remote controlled device in a busy market at Mall Road of Chaman, a district located in the country's southwest Balochistan province.

Police said an estimated five kg of explosive materials were fixed at a motorbike parked inside the market.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

The blast also destroyed four vehicles and damaged a dozen shops.

Windowpanes of nearby buildings were also shattered in the blast.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

This is the second blast of the kind in Chaman over the last three days. Earlier on Sunday, a child was killed and eight people were injured when a remote controlled bomb went off in another market area of the district.

Located near Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Chaman has a great geographical importance in the region as it is one of the two main crossing points for supplies to U.S.-led NATO troops fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. Endi
