Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 7.73 points, or 0.39 percent, to 1,976.12 at the close. Trading volume stood at 304.4 million shares worth 4.1 trillion won (3.7 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended 0.74 percent higher to a fresh 15- year closing high on Tuesday as the yen's slide lifted exporter shares.

The 225-issue Nikkei index was up 136.56 points, from Monday at 18,603.48, the highest close since April 2000.

The turnover was 2,455.3 billion yen (about 20.62 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday up 0.93 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 13.03 points to 1,411.89. A total of 6,543 shares worth about 45 million Lao kip (about 3,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SYDNEY -- The Australian stock market bounced around on Tuesday but ended the day higher than it began.

At the close the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index had gained 19 points, or 0.32 percent, to 5,927, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 17.6 points, or 0.3 percent, at 5,890.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.11 percent higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 8.79 points to 7834.86. The all-share index went up by 13.06 points, or 0.29 percent, to 4547.25.

Trading volume reached 2.85 billion shares worth 6.85 billion pesos (154.78 million U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 1.04 percent on Tuesday with the weighted index up 99.86 points at 9,629.37, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 109.04 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.45 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved down 86.69 points, or 0.35 percent, to close on Tuesday at 24,750.07 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,673.93 and 24, 808.30. Turnover totaled 57.96 billion HK dollars (about 7.47 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI, Feb. 24 -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 86.39 points on Tuesday, up 1.13 points or 1. 32 percent against the previous trading session.

A total of over 25.668 million shares worth some 330.305 billion Vietnamese dong (15.47 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 20.17 percent in volume and 18.1 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 596.95 points on Tuesday, up 9.71 points, or 1.65 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session on Feb. 13 ahead of the country's Lunar New Year holidays.

About 61.107 million shares worth 1.088 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (50.71 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 157 stocks went up, 57 stocks fell down, while 62 stocks remained unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 16.31 points or 0.48 percent to close at 3,437.61.

A total of 1.07 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 25 billion Singapore dollars (919.1 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,818.68, up 9. 29 points or 0.51 percent, and the Emas was at 12,532.48, up 62.22 points or 0.50 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.18 billion shares valued at 2.12 billion ringgit Malaysia (581.94 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.47 billion shares valued at 1.84 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 505.91 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand SET) index on Tuesday moved up 4.77 points, or 0.30 percent, to close at 1,598.66 points.
