Albanian doctors defy test

Xinhua, February 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Doctors and medical staff in Albania held a nationwide protest on Monday against a test.

Over 8,000 physicians, nurses and medical laboratory technicians across Albania have signed a petition on the cancellation of the test, Albanian Daily News reported.

The test, said the protesters, is illegal and seriously violates their dignity and causes psychological pressure.

They also demanded the resignation of Health Minister Ilir Beqaj and a two-fold pay increase.

Medical staff of the Mother Teresa University Hospital, who will be the first to take the test on Saturday, gathered in front of the Parliament on Monday morning in the capital city of Tirana.

"We want to inform you that the testing supported by the minister of health and organized by his followers denigrates the image of doctors," said Tritan Kalo, a physician.

The protesters threatened to gather again on Tuesday in front of the prime minister's office. Endi
