Nikkei rises slightly in morning on optimism about Japan economy

Tokyo stocks ended 0.13 percent higher in the morning session of Tuesday on expectations for a strong economic recovery in Japan.

The 225-issue index rose 23.10 points, from Monday to 18,490.02. But the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 0.43 points, or 0.03 percent, at 1,502. 40.

Major gainers included glass and ceramics, iron and steel as well as nonferrous metal issues. Losers were led by mining and rubber. Endi
