1st LD: Twin blasts kill 3 in southern Damascus

Xinhua, February 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least three people were killed and others wounded when two suicide bombings rocked the entrance of a predominantly Shiite town in southern Damascus on Monday, a well-informed source told Xinhua.

The first blast was triggered by a suicide bomber who wore an explosive belt, while the second by a suicide car bomber who detonated his vehicle at the entrance of the Saida Zainab town, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Saida Zainab has recently been guarded by the Shiite Lebanese militia of Hezbollah, whose leaders have repeatedly declared that they are working to protect the Shiite areas and shrines against attacks of the Sunni-led insurgency in Syria.

The state media has yet to comment on the incident. Endit
