A makeshift rocket suspected to be launched by rebels hit a central prison in Damascus' countryside Monday, killing four visitors and injuring 26 others, state news agency SANA reported.

Women and children were among the casualties, SANA said.

The rocket, believed to have been launched from the rebel-held town of Douma in the eastern countryside of Damascus, slammed into the Central Prison of Damascus located in the town of Adra.

Also on Monday, a car bomb went off near the predominantly-Shiite town of Saida Zainab in the southern countryside of Damascus, the pro-government Sham FM radio reported, without mentioning the number of casualties. Endit
