(Sports) Australian rugby star to announce deal with NFL team

Xinhua, February 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

One of Australia's top rugby league players will this week formally announce a personal deal with the Detroit Lions in the U.S. National Football League (NFL).

Former Parramatta player Jarryd Hayne has been the subject of intense speculation for months after his shock announcement that he would leave Australia and try to play American-style football.

Hayne's management said on Monday that there had been interest from the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, however Hayne has opted for the Lions due to their proven track record in player development.

The 27-year-old has spent the summer transforming his body for the rigors of playing the explosive running back position in the NFL. Endi
