Nikkei opens higher on Wall St. gains, Greece deal

Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher in early trading Monday bolstered by Wall Street gains after the eurozone agreed to a four-month extension on financial aid to Greece.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 154.92 points, or 0.85 percent, from Friday to 18,487.22. It briefly rose as high as 18,509.08, the highest intraday level since May 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 11.06 points, or 0.74 percent, at 1, 511.39.

Major gainers included iron and steel, brokerage and bank issues. Endi
