Oscar likely to meet drizzle this year

Xinhua, February 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Los Angeles will likely encounter drizzle this Sunday when the Oscar Award ceremony takes place in town, U.S. National Weather Service, or the NWS, predicted on Friday.

According to NWS meteorologist Ryan Kittell, there's a 40-percent chance of rainfall in Hollywood on Sunday night, although it may just be a steady, mist-like drizzle.

"I would definitely plan for something to be falling from the sky," Kittell said. "I don't think we're going to have a downpour. It looks like it's going to be cool and moist."

A portion of the 500-foot-long red carpet leading into the Dolby Theatre was already tented, but Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officials said more covering will be installed over the weekend to offer protection from the rain.

There's only a 10-percent chance of rain on Saturday, Kittell said. The odds increase dramatically on Sunday evening into Monday. And heavier rain is possible in valley and foothill areas. According to the forecast, the wet weather is expected to move out of the area by Tuesday. Endi
