Sri Lanka condemns killings in Egypt

Xinhua, February 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Sri Lankan government on Friday condemned the gruesome killings of 21 Coptic Christian Egyptians by a terrorist group in Libya on Feb. 15, a statement by the Foreign Ministry said here.

The Sri Lankan government said that the killings, which were carried out by the terror group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria ( ISIS), were barbaric and the manner in which the killings were carried out has outraged the collective conscience of the world, and is a crime against humanity.

The government further said that Sri Lanka firmly believes that the international community should take concerted and decisive action to eradicate the growing menace of terrorism, which is a threat to human civilization, in all its forms and manifestations.

"The government and people of Sri Lanka convey their profound condolences to the government and the people of Egypt, as well as to the bereaved families on this terrible national tragedy," the statement said. Endi
