Fiji ready to help UAE establish diplomatic presence in Suva

Xinhua, February 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fiji stands ready to assist the United Arab Emirates should the Middle East country consider establishing a diplomatic presence in Suva, the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation reported Thursday.

At a meeting with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan earlier this week, Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said that the move would not only further strengthen the bilateral relations but also enhance the UAE's strategic presence in the Pacific region.

Fiji's decision to establish its first embassy in the Middle East in Abu Dhabi was strategically well-founded and the Pacific island country has benefited so much from the establishment, said Bainimarama, adding that through the embassy, Fiji's bilateral relations with the UAE have grown immensely along with engagement in the Middle East.

The two countries agreed to enhance bilateral ties during the meeting. Endi
