1st LD: India testfires nuclear-capable missile

Xinhua, February 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

India on Thursday successfully testfired its home-made, nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile from a test range in the eastern state of Odisha, sources said.

"The surface-to-surface missile, which has a strike range of 350 km, was testfired from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur as part of an user trial by the Indian Army. The testfiring at 9: 20 p.m. (local time) was successful," the sources said.

The missile, which was inducted in 2003 after being developed by the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization, can carry nuclear warheads up to 1,000 kg.

The last testfiring of the missile was held in November 2014 and that was also successful, proving that the indigenous missile is now a proven technology, the sources said. Endi
