Xinhua, February 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former Brazil international midfielders Elias and Jadson scored either side of halftime as Corinthians defeated local rivals Sao Paulo 2-0 in their opening Copa Libertadores group match on Wednesday.

Elias opened the scoring at the Itaquerao stadium with a low volley after Jadson floated a perfectly weighted pass over Sao Paulo's defence.

Jadson then made it 2-0 when he weaved into the box before seeing his shot slip through the hands of goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni.

In other matches on Wednesday, Chile's Colo-Colo defeated Atletico Mineiro 2-0, six-time champions Boca Juniors won 2-0 at Chile's Palestino while Peru's Sporting Cristal drew 2-2 at Paraguay's Club Guarani.

Sao Paulo will host Uruguay's Danubio in their next match on February 25 while Corinthians face defending champions San Lorenzo in Buenos Aires on March 4. Endi
