Indonesia to evacuate nationals from conflict-torn Yemen

The Indonesian government said on Wednesday it planned to evacuate its nationals from political conflict-ridden Yemen as the situation in that country has worsened with Al-Houthi militiamen having expanded their occupation to areas around the capital of Sana'a.

"Indonesia is very concerned over the developing political situation in Yemen that may lead to security crisis and take lives of civilians, particularly Indonesian nationals staying in that country," said a statement released by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday.

As an anticipation to the worsening situation, Indonesia has prepared plans to evacuate and bring them back home as soon as possible, the statement said.

According to data released by the Indonesian embassy in Sana'a, there are 4,159 Indonesian nationals in Yemen, most of them students.

Al-Houthi militiamen took over the presidential palace in Sana' a last month. The United Nations has called an end to hostilities between government forces and the militia group. Endi
