Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri on Tuesday said his government supported the development of the trans-Adriatic pipeline (TAP) project as part of the Southern Gas Corridor.
Addressing representatives of international and local energy companies, Gjiknuri said their goal was to transform Albania to become part of the European pipeline inter-connectors in order to diversify energy resources and consolidate energy supplies.
Gjiknuri underlined the Albanian government had approved land easement and acquisition processes, clearing the way for construction works on the ground, as well as the upgrade of access roads and bridges in Albania.
He also informed the participants about Albania's efforts to draft legislation on energy and gas regulations.
Companies including SOCAR, Shell, British Petroleum, Albpetrol, DG Energy and EBRD gathered in Tirana to discuss a feasibility study on a gas master plan in Albania.
According to the Albanian Telegraphic Agency, the pipeline in Albania will be approximately 211 km long. TAP's landfall in Albania will be located 17 km north-west of Fier city, up to 400 meters inland from the shoreline. The offshore section in Albanian territorial waters will be about 37 km. Endit
