Liberia says six cases of Ebola remains nationwide

Xinhua, February 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Liberian government on Tuesday said only six confirmed Ebola cases are currently in various Ebola Treatment Units across the country as of Feb. 16.

The Deputy Head of the Ebola response Incidence Management System (IMS), Francis Kateh, disclosed this to reporters while providing an update of the disease in the country.

Kateh said Liberia has recorded incredible progress in its fight against the virus.

But he however, warned against complacency in the struggle to overcome a disease that has claimed the lives of 3,846 Liberians from a total 8,864 suspected, probable and confirmed cases.

Kateh attributed recent resurgence in the Ebola Virus Disease to lapses in the response process.

He said the recent resurgence of the disease in Monrovia is a "result of weaknesses among some people in observing preventive measures."

He told reporters that a person infected with the virus left the St. Paul Bridge community in Monrovia, went to Bomi Hills in Bomi County, returned to Monrovia, and visited a number of clinics using fictitious names.

Kateh said as a result of this, several persons are now being traced across the country.

Liberia last week said 41 new suspected cases of Ebola were identified with 31 new suspected cases in Montserrado County in a situation report released by the Ministry of Health.

Three of those new Ebola cases came from Bong and River Gee while two recorded in Maryland and none each in Bomi and Lofa counties. Endi
