Nikkei opens higher on Wall Street gains

Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher on early Monday after gains on Wall Street before the weekend.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue benchmark gained 128.66 points, or 0.72 percent, from Friday to 18,042.02, around the highest intraday level since July 2007.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 10.30 points, or 0.71 percent, to 1, 459.68.
