Spring Festival celebrated around the world

Xinhua, February 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Ministry of Culture said on Wednesday that festivities will be held in 334 cities in 119 nations and regions to celebrate this year's Spring Festival.

Xie Jinying, head of the ministry's international liaison bureau, told a press briefing that outdoor celebrations will be a focus this year and local elements will be included in activities.

The activities, under the name of "Happy Spring Festival," will also be held outside communities where Chinese are concentrated this year, said Xie. The Empire State Building will be lit up and Chinese contemporary sculpture will be exhibited at Lincoln Center in New York City.

"Happy Spring Festival" celebrations were initiated in 2010. In 2014, the celebrations, including variety shows and concerts, attracted about 70 million people overseas, according to the ministry.

This year's Spring Festival, or the Lunar New Year, falls on Feb. 19.Enditem
