Roundup: Afghan conflict leaves 2 dead, 7 injured within day

Xinhua, February 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Afghan skirmishes and violent incidents have claimed two lives of insurgents and injured seven others including three police in the northern Badakhshan and the eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, officials said.

Two militants were killed and three others including a police were injured as clash erupted between Taliban and security forces in the relatively peaceful northern Badakhshan province on Wednesday, deputy to provincial police chief Abdul Qadir Sayad said.

"The clash flared up in Joykhan area of Yamgan district Wednesday morning and lasted for a while during which two Taliban rebels had been killed and three others including two militants and a police constable sustained injuries," Sayad told Xinhua.

Taliban militants, who remain active in Yamgan and neighboring Warduj district, did not make comment.

In a separate Taliban-related violent incident, a roadside bomb struck a police van in the eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, injuring four persons including two police and two civilians, according to a local official.

"A mine planted by militants on Torkham-Jalalabad road struck a police vehicle at around 10:00 a.m. local time injuring four people including two police and two civilians," spokesman for Nangarhar provincial government Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told reporters.

Taliban militants, who are largely relying on suicide and roadside bombings, have yet to claim responsibility.

Taliban militants have intensified activities in Afghanistan since the end of the combat mission of NATO-led forces on Dec. 31 last year. Endi
