Tajik president meets Kyrgyz FM on bilateral cooperation

Xinhua, February 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met here with visiting Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev to discuss issues related to bilateral cooperation, including border demarcation, the presidential press service said Wednesday.

Rahmon and Abdyldaev on Tuesday discussed a range of issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in the fields like politics, economy, culture, science and regional security, especially the delimitation and demarcation of disputed segments of Tajik-Kyrgyz border, it said.

They touched upon an agreement reached between the two countries on confidence-building measures at the border, and called for further and stronger cooperation to solve disputes, the service said.

They also agreed to resolve the problems in the fields of water and energy, transport and communication, trade and economy to enhance friendly cooperation between the two countries.

About a third of the nearly 1,000-km border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan reportedly remains in dispute, with skirmishes frequently seen along the border in recent years.

The two countries are working hard to solve their disputes through diplomatic channels. Endi
