At least two people have been confirmed dead, with 65 others including seven Chinese injured, in a car pileup accident on Yeongjong Grand Bridge in Incheon, west of South Korea's capital Seoul, local media reported Wednesday.

An airport limousine bus is believed to have rear-ended a car amid thick fog, triggering a chain collision of about 100 vehicles. The exact cause is under investigation. (South Korea-Accident)

KABUL -- Some 23 Taliban militants have been killed as Afghan army pressed ahead with offensives in restive provinces while four soldiers died in bomb attacks, the country's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Over the past 24 hours, up to 23 militants were killed, several injured and 11 others detained during Afghan National Army operations in nine provinces," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates. (Afghanistan-Attacks)

JAKARTA -- Mount Soputan in North Sulawesi of Indonesia erupted on Wednesday, spewing columns of ash by up to 3.5 km to the sky, the national disaster management agency said here.

The ash spread to the southeast of the volcano. There was no report of casualties, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the agency said. (Indonesia-Volcano)

MALE -- Maldives police has accused the former Defense Minister Colonel Mohamed Nazim of plotting to overthrow the government and harm senior government officials, local media reported on Wednesday.

A police statement detailed documents found in a pen drive confiscated from Nazim's house during a midnight raid on January 18 suggesting he "was plotting to physically harm senior Maldivian state officials." (Maldives-Minister-Coup) Endi
