Japan's government on Tuesday decided to allow its Self-Defense Force (SDF) units to continue participating in UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan for another six months.

The short-term extension was approved by the Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, with the lengthened joint-participation being granted as the current mission was scheduled to end at the end of February. (Japan-Force)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- One person was killed and six others injured as a bomb targeted the vehicle of a member of provincial council in Nangarhar's provincial capital Jalalabad city 120 km east of Kabul on Tuesday, a local official said.

"A bomb targeted the vehicle of Nangarhar provincial council member, Angiza Shinwari at 01:30 p.m. local time today in Jalalabad city, killing one person and injuring six others including Shinwari," the official told Xinhua, but declined to be identified, saying authorized officials would brief the media after investigation. SINGAPORE -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Ri Gil Song was in Singapore for a visit from Monday to Thursday, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

Ri met Masagos Zulkifli, Singapore's senior minister of state for foreign affairs and home affair on Tuesday, the ministry said in a statement. (Singapore-DPRK-Visit)

ISLAMABAD -- 15 militants and a soldier were killed in a gun battle between forces and insurgents in Pakistan's southwest Kharan district on Tuesday, local media reported.

Dawn TV said that the clash broke out when paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC) carried out a search operation in Basima area of Kharan on an intelligence tip-off of presence of suspected militants in the area. (Pakistan-Clash) Endi
