Gambia, Malaysia to strengthen Islamic law in Gambia

Xinhua, February 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The government of the Gambia has sought the support of the Malaysian government in their bid to strengthen the Islamic law of Sharia'h in Gambia.

This bid was made on behalf of the Gambia government by the country's minister of Justice Mama Fatima Singhateh who is currently on a state visit to the Asian nation.

"We are looking forward for your support in our bid to strengthen our Sharia'h court system," Singhateh said.

She arrived in Malaysia on Monday and had meetings with Tan Sri Ibrahim Lembut, director-general of Malaysia's Sharia'h Judiciary Department (JKSM).

"I note that JKSM has great experience in the Sharia'h system and we have a lot to learn from you in order to develop our jurisprudence," the official said.

Gambia is a secular state with 90 percent of the Muslims population with Cadi courts in all court houses across the country. Endi
