15 militants killed in clashes with forces in SW Pakistan

Xinhua, February 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

15 militants and a soldier were killed in a gun battle between forces and insurgents in Pakistan's southwest Kharan district on Tuesday, local media reported.

Dawn TV said that the clash broke out when paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC) carried out a search operation in Basima area of Kharan on an intelligence tip-off of presence of suspected militants in the area.

An FC spokesperson said that the clash left one soldier killed and three others injured who were shifted to a nearby hospital.

The spokesperson added that security forces seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the custody of the militants who were involved in subversive activities in the area, including bombings and targeted killings.

Local media reports said that the militants belonged to outlawed Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF).

Kharan is a main town in the country's southwest Balochistan province where FC is conducting sporadic operations against the suspected militants these days. Endi
