Rebels says killing 4 Sudan soldiers in border state

Xinhua, February 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four Sudanese soldiers were killed on in clashes between the military and rebel forces in the country's southeastern Blue Nile State, a Sudan rebel group said on Tuesday.

The SPLM army spokesman Arno Taloudy said in a statement that the rebel group, northern branch of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), defeated the government forces when they tried to ambush them.

"At least four government soldiers were killed and five others arrested, including an officer," he said.

The Sudanese Army could not be immediately contacted to comment on the rebels' claims.

The Blue Nile area has been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the rebel group since September 2011.

The military activities have recently mounted in the border state, where three Sudanese Red Crescent Society staff were killed and four others injured on Sunday when they were attacked on their way back after completing a humanitarian mission.

The Blue Nile state enjoys a strategic geographical location, and is rich of natural resources. It is also home to Al-Rusaires, the biggest electricity producing Dam in Sudan. Endit
