"A bomb targeted the vehicle of Nangarhar provincial council member, Angiza Shinwari at 01:30 p.m. local time today in Jalalabad city, killing her driver and injuring six others including Shinwari, all civilians," a local official told Xinhua, but declined to be identified, saying authorized officials would brief the media after investigation.
Meantime, Head of Jalalabad civil hospital, Hamayon Zahir confirmed to Xinhua that one dead body and six injured persons including Shinwari had been taken to hospital for treatment.
Spokesman for Nangarhar provincial government, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai in talks with reporters confirmed the blast, saying investigation has been initiated into the case.
Three hours earlier, a group of militants stormed a police station house in Kunduz city the capital of Kunduz province, 250 km north of Kabul but all the attackers had been killed, police said.
"A five-member armed group equipped with suicide vests and assault rifles attacked a police station at 10:30 a.m. local time today but all of them were killed within 20 minutes either in their blasts or in police gun shots," provincial police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaine told reporters.
Going into details, the official said that first a suicide bomber wearing police uniform blew himself up next to gate of police station compound after police identified him and ordered him to stop, enabling three others to enter the compound but police in quick reaction shot them dead on the spot.
The fifth attacker riding an explosive laden-car exploded his car outside the police station, killing himself on the spot and damaged some houses and shops nearby, Hussaine said.
Hussaine also admitted that only one police constable sustained injuries in the firefight, which lasted for 20 minutes.
On the other hand, Taliban militants fighting the government have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media claimed that a group of suicide bombers stormed the police station in Kunduz city, inflicting huge casualties on police personnel, a claim rejected by Hussiane as baseless. Endi
