The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has called on countries having advance technologies to share the technology with other countries in an effort to help support establishment of inclusive and sustainable industry.
In an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Monday, Director General of UNIDO Li Yong said that the application of the highly- standard technology is expected to reduce high cost, the main problem facing developing and least developed countries at the bottom of industrialization, in implementing the eco-friendly industry. "So, those countries with best technology should really open their visions, (and) open their hearth to help countries needing this kind of technology. And at the same time they will continue to develop a new technology," he said in the interview. "We really need to change all the formats of the industrialization. What is new, inclusive and sustainable manner," Li said. "Certainly we need to find a proper way to support the country especially at the bottom of industrialization move up with industrial development with some technologies at the lower cost as possible," he said.
On the accusation that industry is big parts of the contributor to climate change, the director general not totally agreed, saying that it brings benefit on economy and its impacts can be deleted.
Indonesia is one of the developing countries which are at the forefront in preserving their rain forest functioning as world's lung and are struggling to get compensation from other countries taking benefit from the effort. But, at the same time, those countries are also striving to expand their economy to create more jobs. "Now, the global community is facing a big challenge to bring back the (economic) growth. Developed countries, developing countries, emerging markets on economies, and middle income countries are exactly facing similar challenges, job, growth, high income," he said. "One of the useful ways, an effective way (to overcome the challenges) is through ISID (inclusive sustainable industrial development," Li added. The director general revealed that Industry contributed 33 to 35 percent of emission on global warming.
"..but we can not only blame industry, everything has two sides. Industry will bring economic growth, jobs, prosperity. At the same time, negative side maybe pollution or emission, (but) It does not mean that we can not overcome this negative parts," said Li. "With a new technology in the world, with the awareness of green concept of every people and with a good policy guiding the manufacturing industry development certainly this negative side could be greatly reduced," he added.
Li argued that countries already become advanced in technology are now developing new technologies with less emission for manufacturing some things. "And they have this kind of knowledge based on years of development," Li said.
The director general said the UNIDO could help building a knowledge sharing, technology transfer among the countries through the implementing of projects under the global environment facility or under the multi-protocol. ".. maybe through some new funding mechanism in the future. Through this kind of projects we can help the countries to get necessary technology," said Li. Endi
