Italy manager Antonio Conte investigated for match-fixing: media reports

Xinhua, February 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Italy manager Antonio Conte, among as many as 130 people in the world of football, was formally notified by prosecutors on Monday that they are under investigation in a match-fixing scandal which dates back to five years ago.

Conte was facing a possible indictment for "sporting fraud" as he allegedly failed to denounce match-fixing when he coached Siena in 2010-2011, ANSA news agency said.

The Italy manager, who already served a four-month ban in connection to the probe during the 2012-2013 season when he was coaching Juventus, denied any wrongdoing.

Atalanta coach Stefano Colantuono, Lazio captain Stefano Mauri, former Lazio and Italy striker Beppe Signori and former Atalanta skipper Cristiano Doni were also reportedly notified on Monday.

Over 50 people have been arrested since mid-2011 in this latest scandal which hit Italy's football again after Juventus was stripped of two Serie A titles for involvement in the so-called Calciopoli match-fixing in 2006. Endit
