France, Morocco resume cooperation to fight terrorism

The French President Francois Hollande and the King of Morocco Mohammed VI vowed Monday to fight terrorism together and fully cooperate in the security field, according to a joint statement published in Rabat.
The two leaders' meeting in Paris put an end to a year-long diplomatic discord.
Morocco cut security and judicial cooperation with France in February 2014 after French police attempted to arrest the visiting head of Moroccan intelligence at the Moroccan residence in Paris following an activist lawsuit accusing him of torture.
The suspension of cooperation hindered coordination on judicial matters as well as counter-terrorism issues between the two countries.
On Thursday, the Moroccan Justice Minister Mustapha Ramid met with his French counterpart Christiane Taubira to tackle matters of mutual concerns.
The joint statement said the exchange of ministerial visits will prepare the next high level meeting between France and the North African kingdom.
During Monday's meeting, the two leaders also hailed the bilateral agreement concluded on Jan. 31 which set the conditions for more effective judicial cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders also discussed other regional and international issues and underlined the strong exceptional partnership between the longtime allies, the statement said. Endit
