Bangladesh police foil attempt to siege ex-PM's office

Xinhua, February 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bangladesh Police on Monday barred hundreds of activists of pro-ruling party organizations from besieging the office of ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Police stopped the activists at an intersection in Dhaka's diplomatic enclave, as they tried to move towards the office of Khaleda Zia, the opposition leader, where she has been living since Jan. 5 after she was barred to join a grand rally of her Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Police and witnesses said several hundred protestors under the banner of various organizations thronged the streets leading to Khaleda Zia's office for hours on Monday afternoon.

The protestors staged the demonstration and chanted slogans against the anti-government strike and blockade, which was called for by Zia. Endi
