Slovakia may have NATO military planners

Xinhua, February 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovakia may have a team of military planners from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), local media reported on Friday.

Slovakia is the eighth NATO member country to request such a team be established in the country, news agency TASR reported.

"It's only a team of planners. Their presence will make it easier for the country concerned to potentially receive additional forces from NATO," Slovak Defence Minister Martin Glvac said, adding it doesn't involve setting up a combat unit or a military base.

The team should feature around 40 people, with half of them from Slovakia and half from fellow NATO member countries, according to the report.

According to Glvac, the team will coordinate multi-national drills and verify connections between Slovak and multi-national NATO forces.

"The measure is designed to safeguard our interests and the integrity of Slovakia's borders," Glvac was quoted as saying. Enditem
