2015 ITTF-Europe TOP-16 opens in Azerbaijan

Xinhua, February 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

The 2015 NN Table Tennis Club ITTF- Europe Top 16 kicks off here on Friday at the National gymnastics arena of Azerbaijan.

The tournament, a rehearsal and testing event prior to the 2015 European Games, will feature 16 men's and 16 women players. Players invited to the tournament are the best ranked in Europe.

A new face at the ITTFEurope Top 16 will be 20-year-old Simon Gauzy. The young French ace is just looking forward to competing at the February 6 to 8 spectacle in Baku.

"I do not have high expectations since I am a 'newcomer' there. I have huge respect for all the players who will be in Baku. After all, I am the youngest there, and they are the best players in Europe right now. If I will be able to win one or two matches it will be already a great tournament for me," Gauzy earlier said on the ETTU website.

Founded in 1971, the tournament was previously called TOP-12, and was recently renamed TOP-16. Endite
