Berlinale int'l jury begins work in Berlin

Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

All the international jury members of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival made their debut in front of the global media here on Thursday.

U.S. film director, screenwriter and film producer Darren Aronofsky, who serves as the chairman of the international jury, told Xinhua he is excited about this year's festival.

He said nationality was not a factor in good cinema "as a great movie could be insight of a seven-year-old girl from China or a 60-year-old man from the United States."

The other members of the international jury include German actor Daniel Bruehl, Korean director Bong Joon-ho, U.S. producer Martha De Laurentiis, Peruvian director, writer and producer Claudia Llosa, French actress Audrey Tautou, as well as U.S. writer, director and producer Matthew Weiner.

Bruehl, who worked in "Good Bye, Lenin!" in the Berlinale competition 12 years ago, said: "It is a tight program and we have much to do. For me, it is the first time that I will see the complete Berlinale competition films, and that makes me happy."

The 65th Berlin International Film Festival, which runs from Feb. 5 to 15, will begin with the film "Nobody Wants the Night" by Spanish director Isabel Coixet.

This year, the film festival will present a total of 441 films from 72 countries and regions, with 19 films vying for recognition.

The seven-member international panel will decide who will receive the Golden Bear and Silver Bear awards of the 2015 Berlinale competition. Endit
