Algeria, Tunisia set to boost security ties to fight terrorism

Xinhua, February 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Security coordination between Algeria and Tunisia will enable them to defeat terrorism, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said Wednesday in Algiers.

"Algeria and Tunisia continue their security coordination, particularly through sharing intelligence, training and consultation," Lamamra said.

Lamamra added that the two neighboring nations are urged "to boost their security relations and make them strategic in a bid to deal efficiently with terrorism and cross-border crime."

Concerning the visit of Tunisian President in Algeria, the head of Algerian diplomacy noted that it would further deepen and expand bilateral security relations.

The two leaders of Tunisia and Algeria are due to address a range of issues of common interest, including boosting bilateral cooperation in all fields, in addition to discussing the situation in the Arab, Maghreb and African regions.

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Wednesday begun a two-day visit to Algeria to boost bilateral cooperation, and continue consultations over their security coordination amid growing threat of terror groups on the borderline.

This is the first visit of Essebsi abroad since he was elected president of Tunisia last December. Endit
