Baltic, Benelux FMs highlight support for Ukraine

Foreign Ministers from Baltic and Benelux countries on Wednesday decided to maintain sanctions against Russia and highlighted the need of supporting Ukraine.

At an ongoing meeting in Tallinn, foreign ministers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg agreed the European Union's uniform policy towards Russia must continue, according to a statement released by the Estonian Foreign Ministry.

"In addition to sanctions, Ukraine also needs significant economic support and must continue with reforms," according to the statement.

The foreign ministers also discussed opportunities to strengthen the European Union's competitiveness and issues related to European Security Strategy.

In light of the changed security situation, they agreed there is a need to revise European Neighborhood Policy.

The foreign ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East, issues related to migration and those related to combating ISIS, according to the statement. Endit
