Ireland collects more tax in Jan.

Ireland collected about 4.19 billion euros (about 4.82 billion U.S. dollars) of tax revenue in January, up 12.3 percent or 460 million euros from the same month last year, according to government figures released on Tuesday.

The exchequer returns, revealed by the Department of Finance, showed that income tax receipts of over 1.5 billion euros were collected in January, representing a year-on-year increase of 58 million euros or 4 percent.

Almost 2 billion euros were collected in value-added tax in January, up 12.9 percent or 225 million euros on the same month of last year. These receipts were significantly boosted by Christmas period trading.

Irish economist Philip O'Sullivan said the January exchequer returns show a strong start in 2015 for the public finances. Endit
