Lithuania receives new precision rifles from Belgium

The Lithuanian army received new Belgian-made precision rifles worth 2.78 million euros (about 3.20 million U.S. dollars), announced the Ministry of National Defense here on Tuesday.

According to the ministry's statement, the rifles will be used to equip the Lithuanian Land Force.

"Our focus in the modernization of the Lithuanian Armed Forces is the soldier, while we aim at providing them with proper modern equipment as we seek to ensure that a soldier's tasks are completed ... Precision rifles are a step along this road," said Juozas Olekas, the minister of national defense said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the new precision rifles were purchased from Belgian company FN Herstal, under a contract approved in December 2013.

The effective maximum shooting range of the weapon is 600 meters. Endit
