U.S. President Barack Obama pledged Tuesday to defeat the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) after a clip of video showing IS burning a Jordanian pilot hostage alive was released.

"It, I think, will redouble the vigilance and determination on the part of a global coalition to make sure that they are degraded and ultimately defeated," Obama told reporters shortly after the release of the video produced by IS's official media outlet.

According to the U.S. president, IS is operating on a "bankrupt " ideology, whatever it is.

IS militants released a video on Tuesday purporting to show a Jordanian pilot captured earlier being burned alive in a cage, days after the militants beheaded a Japanese journalist. Jordan has just confirmed the authenticity of the video and vowed to revenge. Endite
