Spain's unemployment increases in Jan.

The number of people registered as unemployed in Spain increased by 77,980 in January to reach 4,525,691, according to data published on Tuesday by the Spanish Ministry of Employment and Social Security.

The figure represents a 1.75 percent rise on a month-on-month basis, and a 6 percen fall on a year-on-year basis.

The Ministry said unemployment increased by 76,744 people in the services sector due to the end of Christmas period when businesses had to recruit more workers.

Unemployment also increased in the agriculture sector by 15,858 people, while fell by 7,857 people and 753 people in the construction and industry sectors respectively.

According to the ministry, the number of unemployed men rose by 25,329, while the number of unemployed women increased by 52,651. Endit
