Iran signs deal to build power plant in Turkey

Xinhua, February 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran signed a deal with a number of Turkish companies to build a power plant in Turkey, Press TV reported on Monday.

According to the deal, the power plant will be built in Turkey through joint investment from the Iranian and Turkish firms, said Alireza Kameli, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC).

"One way to diversify Iran's gas exports is to turn it into electricity," Kameli said, adding that "that is why Iran's Oil Ministry has decided to proceed with this project."

The Iranian Ariyan Mahtab Gostar is responsible for deciding the location of the power plant inside Turkey, he was quoted as saying.

The National Iranian Gas Company will start procedures to construct a pipeline from Iran to the location of the plant, he added.

"Following talks with the Turkish companies, it has been agreed for Iran to supply the required gas of the project, and the investor's share of gas export revenue is calculated in proportion to gas price in each target market, the Iranian oil official said.

Kameli maintained that Iran expects the efficiency of the power plant to be above 50 percent so that it would be able to compete with international rivals.

The efficiency of power plants in Iran is maximum 37 percent, he added. Endit
