Chelsea, Wolfsburg reach agreement on Schuerrle transfer

Xinhua, February 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chelsea's midfielder Andre Schuerrle joins Wolfsburg until June 2019, the German Bundesliga club confirmed on its official homepage on Monday.

After a long back and forth Chelsea and Wolfsburg were finally able to reach an agreement on the transfer of the German international at the last day of the transfer window. Schuerrle and Wolfsburg settled on a contract until June 2019. Chelsea and Wolfsburg agreed to keep silence on transfer details.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who also plays as a striker, joined Premier League side Chelsea in June 2013 by putting pen to paper on a five-year deal. However, despite scoring 11 goals in 44 appearances Schuerrle never made an impact at Chelsea.

Schuerrle was part of Germany's World Cup winning squad in Brazil. He assisted Mario Goetze with a cross for the decisive 1-0 winner against Argentine in the 113th minute. Wolfsburg's new arrival scored overall 17 goals in 42 international caps.

His new side sit on the second place of the table for the moment. The "Wolves" encounter Frankfurt on Tuesday at the 19th round of Bundesliga.

Andre Schuerrle started his professional career in Mainz in 2009 before he joined Leverkusen in 2011 where he played for two years. Endite
