Borussia Monchengladbach's Granit Xhaka extends his contract by inking an extension until June 2019, the "Foals" confirmed in an official statement on Monday.
"Granit has taken a great development during the last two and a half years. He became a very important player for our squad. We are pleased that we were able to bind him," Monchengladbach director of sport Max Eberl told the club's official homepage.
Xhaka and the "Foals" settled on a contract extension until June 2019 with an option for another year.
"I feel comfortable at Borussia as I finally arrived in my third season. So it was no question for me to extend my contract. I am proud and happy to play for Borussia in the future," Granit Xhaka said.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Monchengladbach from Swiss side FC Basel in May 2012 to score two goals in 64 appearances. During his previous two years, from 2010 until 2012, at Basel the Swiss international marked two goals in 44 official matches.
The Monchengladbach midfielder is since 2011 part of Switzerland's national soccer team, the "Nati". He made his international debut in June 2011 to mark five goals in 33 caps.
The "Foals" sit currently on the third position of the Bundesliga standings. They sit seven points adrift of second placed Wolfsburg and 15 points off front-runners Bayern Munich. Endite
