Tokyo stocks fell 0.66 percent to a one-week low Monday as weaker-than-expected U.S. data clouded the outlook for the global economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 116.35 points from Friday at 17,558.04, the lowest close since Jan. 26.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Monday. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 3.42 points, or 0. 18 percent, to 1,952.68 at the close. Trading volume stood at 361. 38 million shares worth 4.31 trillion won (3.91 billion U.S. dollars).
The South Korean currency finished at 1,103.3 won against the greenback, down 9.8 won from Friday's close.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has hit a five-month high at the close of Monday, boosted by predictions that the Reserve Bank of Australia will cut interest rates on Tuesday.
At the official market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 37 points, or 0.66 percent, at 5,625.3 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 34.9 points, or 0.63 percent, at 5,586.5.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.77 percent lower on Monday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 59.20 points to 7630.71. The all-share index went down by 24.24 points, or 0.54 percent, to 4441.04.
Trading volume reached 2.75 billion shares worth 10.48 billion pesos (237.73 million U.S. dollars).

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.26 percent on Monday with the weighted index up 25.08 points at 9,386.99, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 84.42 points on Monday, down 1.14 points, or 1.33 percent, against the previous closing session.
