December consumption of goods grows 1.5 pct in France

Xinhua, January 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

French households consumption of goods rebounded in December with a 1.5 percent growth in December 2014 after a tepid growth of 0.2 percent a month earlier, the national statistics institute Insee said on Friday.

Growth in December expenses stemmed mainly from dynamic energy consumption which jumped by 6.9 percent after three consecutive months of decline "because of fuel and heating expenditure", according to Insee figures.

French consumers had spent more in buying textile and leather products and food products, presenting an increase of 1.4 percent and 0.7 percent respectively.

On yearly basis, households consumption of goods fell by 0.2 percent despite a recovery in the consumption of manufactured products, Insee said.

Manufactured products' consumption accounts for 25 percent of France's total expenditure of processed goods and services. Endit
