Xinhua, January 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesian government condemned the attacks carried out by militant group El Arish in Egypt's North Sinai province that claimed 29 lives and left several others injured, a statement released by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Friday. "Indonesia conveyed its deepest sympathy for Egyptian government and victims' families, expects protection assurance for civilians,"the statement said.

The ministry said so far, no Indonesian nationals have been killed or injured in the attacks on Thursday.

Indonesians in Egypt were asked to remain vigilant and keep contact with Indonesian Embassy. Almost 4,000 Indonesian students are studying in Egypt as of last year.

The deadly attacks were conducted by militants affiliated to Islamic States movement.

Egypt sees escalating tension in the country this week amid protests marking the anniversary of the 2011 uprising that ousted then-leader Hosni Mubarak. Endi
