Euro area unemployment rate hit 11.4 pct in Dec. 2014

The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate of the euro area hit 11.4 percent in December 2014, down from 11.5 percent in November 2014, according to the latest figures released on Friday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU).

This was the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since August 2012. And the figure was down from 11.8 percent in December 2013, according to the office.

According to the statistics, the unemployment rate of the EU area was 9.9 percent in December 2014, down from 10.0 percent in November 2014 and from 10.6 percent in December 2013.

This was also the first time the rate for the EU has fallen below 10.0 percent since October 2011. Endit
