More than 10 million rural Chinese residents cast off the label of impoverished in 2014, another achievement for the world's second largest economy apart from GDP, official data showed on Friday.
The central authority and government in poverty-stricken regions increased their efforts to reduce poverty last year, finally beating the poverty-relief target of 10 million, Hong Tianyun, deputy director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, said during a press conference.
Hong said the governments dispatched around 430,000 officials, forming more than 100,000 work teams to help residents shake off poverty around the country.
China initiated a targeted help-the-poor program last year and identified 128,000 impoverished villages with 88.62 million people living under the poverty line. Endi
