Tokyo stocks open sharply higher on Wall Street gains, Japan job data

Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher on Friday morning following overnight gains on Wall Street and the improvement of Japan's job data in December.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 169.15 points, or 0.96 percent, from Thursday's closing to 17,775.37.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 14.61 points, or 1.03 percent, at 1, 428.19. Endi
